The new Pesthuys
Since 2019, the monumental building that will become the New Pesthuys (formerly know as Pesthuis) has been owned by the Citystone Group.
During the summers of 2020 and 2021, the popular pop-up concept De Buurt was based at The Pesthuys with a mix of hospitality, culture, events, retail and games. Currently, the venue continues under the name The Pesthuys Pop-Up Event Space, a temporary multifunctional event venue.
Citystone Group has ambitious plans for the The New Pesthuys. With respect for the monumental status of the historic building. The New Pesthuys concept will be hosting an Open Science and Innovation Centre serving as a vibrant collaboration space for both he surrounding Leiden BioScience Park as well as for the city as a whole. The collaboration facilities will be complemented by an internal hotel, Short Stay, Restaurant and Exposition and Event option. In addition, a hostel and art route will be realised on the grounds outside the building.
The focus of the Open Science and Innovation Centre will be on data science. The core scientific institute operating in the New Pesthuys will be the Leiden Institute for FAIR and Equitable Science (LIFES). This institute will operate as a public private partnership around FAIR science and innovation with a strong focus on global inclusion.
